Information for Homes built prior to 1978.....

Many houses, apartments & offices built in the United States prior to 1978 may contain paint containing high levels of lead (referred to as lead-based paint). Chipping and peeling paint can expose occupants to this hazardous material. In addition, many older plumbing systems utilized lead-based solder to join pipes. This lead can leech into the water, especially when running hot water.

Before you rent an older home, you need to know what hazards may exist. If you are the Landlord/Property Owner, federal law stipulates that you must disclose any lead-based paint in the home. If you are the Tenant, you want to know what hazards may be lurking in the walls, as well as in the pipes, before you submit and application or pay a security deposit. For more information on Lead in The Home, you may visit www.epa.gov/lead.

When renting a home, apartment, office, etc. built prior to 1978, a Lead-Based Paint Disclosure must be completed and signed by the Landlord/Property Owner indicating if they have any knowledge or reports of the existence of Lead-Based Paint. This Disclosure is presented to the Tenant for review and sign. Select Homes (Agent for the Owner) will provide the Tenant with the EPA issued information packet "Protect Your Family From Lead In Your Home").
